Isn’t it odd that the verb in this question is in the negative form? Well, that’s totally OK: in this form, the question is perceived as a more polite and less tough. You can use similar questions when addressing to strangers:

Dad says that Ivan works a lot:

Он вечно занят.

Ivan’s dad has never heard about hummus, so he asks with suspicion:

Что ещё за хумус?
